The turbulent history of a Dutch hospitality family

Also curious about the story behind the Van der Valk family? In this book, you will read how Van der Valk originated as a hotel chain and the events that the family has experienced. This book is a perfect gift for any Valk enthusiast.

"August 25, 1988. In a few days, Motel Breukelen on the A2 will open. About two hundred old and young Valkjes are busy making sure that the new branch can open on time. Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, uncles and aunts, grandpas and grandmas: everyone is helping out. 'That's what family is for, right?'"
When Nicolaas van der Valk bought the farm de Gouden Leeuw in Voorschoten in 1862, he had no idea of the success story that would follow. By now, everyone knows Van der Valk, and the little café in the conservatory has grown into a legendary family business with nearly a hundred hotels and restaurants at home and abroad and thousands of employees. Every Dutch person knows the toucan.
Much has changed over the years. Grandpa Valk's café has made way for four-star plush hotels, the pioneering spirit of Gerrit & Arie's generation for a modern business operation. But throughout all those years, hospitality has remained. All of the Netherlands is and will always be welcome at the Van der Valk family, where 'everyone can go'.
